Cyprus introduced the Digital Nomad Visa (DNV) to attract remote workers and self-employed individuals from non-EU countries who wish to live and work from Cyprus while serving clients or employers abroad. Here is everything you need to know.
Who Qualifies for the Digital Nomad Visa?
The Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa is available to third-country nationals (non-EU/EEA citizens) who work remotely using telecommunications technology. To qualify, applicants must:
- Be employed by a company registered outside Cyprus, or be self-employed with clients outside Cyprus
- Demonstrate a stable monthly income of at least €3,500 net (after tax)
- Hold valid health insurance covering Cyprus
- Have a clean criminal record
- Secure accommodation in Cyprus (rental agreement or property ownership)
EU and EEA nationals do not require a Digital Nomad Visa — they have the right to reside and work in Cyprus under EU freedom of movement rules.
Visa Duration and Renewal
The Digital Nomad Visa is initially granted for one year. It can be renewed for an additional two years, giving a maximum stay of three years under this category. After three years, holders may be eligible to apply for long-term residency under other programmes.

Tax Implications
This is where Cyprus becomes particularly attractive. Digital Nomad Visa holders who spend more than 183 days in Cyprus in a calendar year become Cyprus tax residents. As a Cyprus tax resident, you may benefit from:
- The 60-day tax residency rule (if you meet the conditions)
- Non-domicile status — exempting foreign-source dividends and interest from Special Defence Contribution (SDC) for 17 years
- 50% income tax exemption for first-time employees earning over €55,000 per year
